[Concluded] Pen to Print
From Graphics to Garment
To my beloved family, friends and strangers:
Thank you for all the support for this project. Whether it is the smallest comments about its colour or feedback on its design - and even purchasing a shirt - I appreciate you being here to be on this venture with me.
This project has taken close to 1.5 years for us to get here (including finding the right suppliers, having conversations about it, first designs, getting feedback, redesigning several times because of my own perfectionism... you know, the usual!). I am happy that it has come to fruition, and I believe that now is the right time to conclude this project.
This project means a lot to me because it is a product of a very personal journey in these past two years, to figure where I am right now (at being a designer, a friend, a daughter and a human being) and who I want to be for myself and others.
Here are some little insights (just so that it's on the record and we can look back at it nostalgically): Shirt Details:
Oversized - soft comfort fit, drop shoulder
180gsm
TC Cotton
How did the design start?
The idea started when I had first met a friend at the gym, and we were talking about our travels, how we were always in search for ventures to embark on, and how we could "never sit still".
She said, "You know, I feel like we have this zest for life. We want to experience new things and feelings, get to know people, be out there, create our own fun. We purposefully do that."
And that was how it all started.
What does the design all mean?
There are several nuances to its meaning, but at the heart of it, I wanted to remind ourselves of how playful life can be - both as part of our own choice, and as a challenge beyond our control. Yet I think it's about how we show up for ourselves, and how we create meaning out of it.
And of course, that whenever and wherever, there will be fellow zesty peers who are on this whole journey with us to inspire us and figure it all out - to be the orange to our lemon.
Once again, thank you for making a childhood dream come true. May many of yours be true too!
Warmly,
Riley.
